The family day, engineered
Most small electric boats ask you to choose what your day is for. The EZ 28 does not: its six factory scenarios (Beach, Picnic, Party, Water sports, Fishing, Commuting) reconfigure one deck for each of them, and with the topsides folded down there is 17 m² of open floor to reconfigure. Twelve people, a wet bar, a grill, a WC and a stern shower on a boat this size is not a package anything nearby offers — for a family that swims, anchors for lunch and tows the kids in the afternoon, or a charter operator on quiet waters, that flexibility is the product.
Range you can plan a day around
Crooze publishes a curve, not one flattering figure — rare in this class, and worth rewarding. The pack is 140 kWh gross, 130 kWh usable, among the largest fitted to a boat this size, behind a 207 kW standard motor with a 270 kW option. It reads: up to 120 nautical miles at 5 knots, around 30 nm at the 12-knot cruise the hull was shaped for, 15–16 nm flat out at 30 knots, with water-sports towing specified at 15 knots. For a lake or coastal day the honest middle of that curve is the number that matters, and here it covers the whole day — swim stops, lunch at anchor, tow runs and the ride home.
Trailer, ramp, home
At 2.59 m of beam and 3,060 kg light, the EZ 28 travels by road. That changes the economics of owning it: no berth as a precondition, winters at home, a different lake each weekend if that is the season's mood. And at €269,000 it buys more usable deck per euro than the celebrated small electrics — the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air runs roughly twice the money, and the Candela C-8 sits above it as well.
Who builds it
Crooze is a young yard that has done its homework in public: the design is by the UK's Thorne Yacht Design, construction runs at Elica Yard's 12,000 m² facility on the Danube, the first hull is sold, paid for and in build, and the model took a 2025 Gustave Trouvé Award. The standing advice for any new builder applies — confirm the build slot, the warranty terms and who services the boat in your market — but few new boats arrive with this much already answered.
